The Autool SDT202 smoke tester generates smoke by heating mineral oil in an oxygen-poor environment through an internal heating element that reaches temperatures up to 300°C. The device is equipped with a built-in air compressor, eliminating the need for an external air compressor connection, and generating a consistent working pressure up to 12 psi. The power supply is powered directly by connecting a 12V vehicle battery using the included clamps. This smoke leak detector is used for detecting leaks in sealed air, vacuum and fluid circuits of various vehicles.
During a diagnostic procedure, the smoke injection introduced into the system to be tested via a conical or inflatable adapter to seal the gas-tight path. The integrated analog pressure gauge enables direct pressure control and check for pressure loss in the system before smoke becomes visible. Once the circuit is filled with the maximum smoke output of 5 liters per minute, smoke visualization because the dense smoke escapes through cracks, porous hoses or faulty seals. During extended testing, an internal temperature protection kicks in; the device automatically cuts power when the core temperature exceeds 75°C to prevent damage.
KEY FEATURES
KEY FEATURES
Application and Functionality
The smoke tester is designed to check the sealing of various closed circuits and systems in the workshop.
- Leak detection in intake systems: Detecting false air, faulty gaskets and cracks in intake manifolds and vacuum hoses.
- Exhaust system diagnosis: Checking the gas-tightness of exhaust pipes and connections to identify pressure loss or emission problems.
- Pressure loss indication: Monitoring the existing system pressure via the analog pressure gauge to verify whether a sealed circuit has a leak, even if smoke is not yet directly visible.
- Body seal inspection: Locating missing or worn window and door seals by filling the vehicle cabin with smoke under slight positive pressure.
Special Features and Capabilities
The hardware of this diagnostic system is equipped with specific techniques to perform the detection process safely and independently.
- Integrated air compressor: The device is fitted with an internal pump that generates an air flow of up to 5 liters per minute. This allows leak detection to be performed at any location, without dependence on workshop compressed air connections.
- Oxygen-depleted smoke generation: The smoke is produced by heating the test fluid with minimal air flow. This creates an oxygen-depleted environment in the combustion chamber, preventing the oil or smoke from igniting in the device or in the vehicle system.
- Automatic temperature protection: The device is protected against extreme temperatures. Power supply is automatically cut off when operating temperature exceeds 75°C, and a lockout is activated if temperature drops below -20°C.
Compatible Vehicles and Systems
This smoke machine is widely applicable for diagnosing internal circuits that need to be airtight.
- System type: EVAP systems, intake paths, exhaust systems, cooling systems, fuel tanks and crankcase ventilation.
- Vehicle category: Passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, motorcycles, quads and marine applications such as boats.
- Diagnostic application: Checking pipework, rubber seals and component housings for micro-cracks.
