The TopDiag P100 circuit tester is designed for diagnosing electrical systems in vehicles with a voltage range of 6 to 30 volts, making it suitable for both 12V cars and 24V commercial vehicles. The device is powered directly from the vehicle battery via the included battery clamps or a 12V cigarette lighter adapter. Physical connection to the wiring or components being tested is made through the sharp, removable test probe. In electrical diagnostics, this tester is primarily used for on-site verification of voltage levels, continuity, and the presence of positive and ground connections during troubleshooting.
During operation, the tester functions as an active diagnostic tool that both measures signals and can supply voltage. Via the LCD display, the technician reads current values for AC/DC voltage, resistance, and diodes, including parameters such as frequency and duty cycle for alternating current. With the integrated toggle switch, the tester actively applies positive or ground to a component, such as a cooling fan, windshield wiper motor, or relay, to force operation without connecting an external power source. Additionally, the system detects directly when touching a wire whether it's positive, ground, or an open circuit via colored LEDs and an audible signal, which simplifies wire tracing and ground fault detection.

The TopDiag P100 offers a range of measurement and test modes for everyday automotive electrical diagnostics.
- AC/DC Voltage Measurement: Measures DC and AC voltage directly in the circuit. In AC mode, frequency and duty cycle are also displayed.
- Resistance and Diode Testing: Checks wiring continuity, including OL display for broken circuits, and verifies correct forward bias direction and reverse voltage of diodes in the electrical system.
- Polarity Detection: Instantly identifies whether a wire carries positive, ground, or no connection, supported by a red or green LED indicator on the housing.
- Ground and Contact Testing: Detects poor ground connections. The tester emits a warning signal when transition resistance to the chassis is high, eliminating the need for time-consuming voltage drop measurements.

This model includes active test functions and integrated safety features that make diagnostics and troubleshooting more efficient.
- Component Activation: Allows you to apply battery voltage or ground directly to a component via the toggle switch to physically verify operation, whether installed or removed.
- Short Circuit Protection: Equipped with an internal automatic circuit breaker. When testing a circuit with a short, the tester shuts down to prevent damage to internal electronics and vehicle wiring.
- Short Circuit Tracing and Locating: Enables technicians to check wiring step-by-step and pinpoint the exact location of a ground fault without repeatedly replacing fuses.
- Trailer Light Testing: Provides functionality to test pins and connections on trailer connectors directly for positive and ground.
