The Autool 24V/12V voltage converter OBD2 adapter is a power transformer that converts the 24V vehicle power supply from trucks, buses and other heavy-duty vehicles to 12V. This allows a 12V diagnostic scanner to be safely connected to vehicles with a 24V electrical system, without risk of damage to the interface or diagnostic device.
Trucks, buses, tractors and many commercial vehicles use a 24V electrical system, while most consumer and semi-professional diagnostic tools are designed for 12V systems. Without a voltage converter, connecting a 12V interface to a 24V port can result in overheating, short circuits or permanent damage to the electronics. This adapter protects your investment in diagnostic equipment.
KEY BENEFITS
IMPORTANT NOTES
Application and functionality
The transformer acts as an interface between the OBD2 port of a 24V vehicle and a 12V diagnostic scanner.
- Voltage conversion: Converts the 24V power supply from the OBD2 port to a stable 12V output.
- Electronics protection: Prevents overheating, burnout or permanent damage to your diagnostic device.
- Data communication preserved: The data lines (CAN, K-Line) pass through unchanged; only the power line (pin 16) is converted.
- Plug-and-play operation: Connect the adapter to the vehicle's OBD2 port and plug your diagnostic scanner into the other end.
Why choose a 24V/12V converter?
Most passenger cars and light commercial vehicles operate on a 12V electrical system. However, large commercial vehicles such as trucks, buses, and tractors use a 24V system, which consists of two 12V batteries connected in series. This higher voltage is necessary to power heavy-duty starter motors and operate large electrical consumers.
Consumer and semi-professional diagnostic scanners are typically designed for 12V operation. If you connect a 12V scanner directly to a 24V port without a converter, the power supply line (pin 16) can damage the internal electronics. This transformer allows 24V to pass through the data lines (for communication) while reducing the power supply to 12V — your scanner works as intended, without risk.
Compatible vehicles
This adapter is designed for vehicles with a 24V electrical system and a standard 16-pin OBD2 diagnostic port. Examples include:
- Trucks (including DAF, MAN, Mercedes-Benz Actros, Scania, Volvo Trucks, Iveco)
- Buses (city, coach, and school buses)
- Agricultural tractors with OBD2 and 24V systems
- Construction equipment and other heavy-duty vehicles with OBD2 diagnostics
