The Jaltest JDC201A is the diagnostic cable for the round 8-pin connector from Volvo Trucks; the cable brings that connection to the 16-pin OBD2-input of the Jaltest equipment. The 8-pin connector is located in the cab and is used on pre-Euro IV generation vehicles.

With this connection, the Jaltest equipment reads out the control units that Cojali manages for these Volvo generations: The engine control EDC, the central VECU, the transmission control TECU with the diagnostic unit GECU, the braking systems ABS and EBS, the air suspension ECS and the instrument cluster, body, and tachograph modules. The number of these varies significantly by model: On the FL 6, Jaltest covers the engine, VECU, brakes, instrument panel and air suspension, while the list for the FH 12 V2 includes dozens of units. Volvo stuck with this proprietary round connector until the introduction of Euro IV (October 2005); after that, the 16-pin OBD2 connector became standard and you won't need this cable. The cable falls under Jaltest CV (commercial vehicles).

✕Which engine control unit you'll find depends on the model year: On later production years, Jaltest supports both EDC Euro 3 and EDC Euro 4/5.
✕Requires a Jaltest Link with valid CV license; the cable does not add coverage on its own.

Applications and functionality

Through this connection, you can access with Jaltest software the control units that Cojali supplies for Volvo truck generations before Euro IV. Which units are present varies by model and year of manufacture.

  • EDC Euro 3, Electronic Diesel Control: The engine control of the D-series engines in this generation; on the latest model years, Jaltest also supports EDC Euro 4/5.
  • VECU, Vehicle Electronic Control Unit: The central vehicle control unit of the chassis.
  • TECU, Transmission Electronic Control Unit and GECU, Gearbox lever: The transmission control and the gear lever unit.
  • ABS, Antilock braking system and EBS 2.X / EBS 5 / EBS Gen 2: The braking and brake management systems from this period.
  • ECS, Electronically controlled air suspension: The electronically controlled air suspension, including on the FL 6.
  • IC, Instrument cluster and MD, Instrument cluster - display: Instrument panel and display, with serial number and software version of the unit.
  • CC, Body computer, BBM, Bodywork Module and LCM, Light Control Unit: Body, structure and lighting modules.

  • View live data: The current values of the sensors connected to the control unit, displayed as numbers and graphs.
  • Activate components: Directly activate parts to determine whether the fault is in the component itself or in the wiring.
  • Configure Parameters: Write configurations and settings to the control unit.
  • Run Calibrations: For systems where Jaltest offers a calibration procedure, such as after component replacement.
  • Reset Maintenance: Reset the service counter through the vehicle's maintenance system.

The connector type determines compatibility, not the model.This cable works with any Volvo truck featuring the round 8-pin diagnostic connector from before Euro IV. The Jaltest CV software includes exact production years for the truck generations listed below; check which connector is installed in your cab on-site.

Good to Know: The 8-pin connector is located in the cab. From Euro IV onwards (October 2005), Volvo switched to the standardized 16-pin OBD2 connector, which connects directly. Check which connector your vehicle has before ordering.
