The TopDiag BT400 is a multifunctional battery tester that combines four diagnostic functions in one device: battery test, battery replacement with ECU memory preservation, parasitic drain detection and OBD2 voltage test. The tester analyzes the condition of 12V and 24V batteries and measures the State of Health (SOH), the State of Charge (SOC), internal resistance and actual cold cranking amperage. The measurement range for cold cranking current (CCA) runs from 100 to 2000 A, allowing you to test a wide range of batteries.
Beyond battery testing, the device offers diagnostic capabilities for the complete starting and charging system. The starter test checks starting voltage, while the charging test examines alternator performance. When replacing a battery, the memory-saver function maintains system voltage so radio codes, seat positions and fault memory are preserved. The tester features reverse polarity protection and all tests can be performed directly on the battery in the vehicle.

Application and functionality
The tester is equipped with multiple diagnostic functions for comprehensive analysis of a vehicle's electrical system.
- Battery test: Analyzes the overall condition of the battery by measuring state of health (SOH), state of charge (SOC), internal resistance, and cold cranking amperage (CCA). The result indicates battery lifespan and performance.
- Starter test: Checks the performance of the starting system by measuring the minimum voltage during engine cranking. This function helps identify starter motor or battery issues.
- Charging test: Assesses the charging system performance, including the alternator, by measuring output voltage both at idle and under load. This evaluates alternator and voltage regulator operation.
Special features and capabilities
Beyond battery diagnostics, the BT400 includes three additional functions that simplify electrical system work.
- Battery replacement with memory retention: Maintains system voltage during battery replacement, preserving radio codes, seat and mirror positions, clock settings, and fault memory in control modules.
- Parasitic drain detection: Measures the current the vehicle draws while at rest, helping identify parasitic drain that depletes the battery between trips.
- OBD2 voltage test: Checks the system voltage via the OBD2 connector, useful for verifying power supply to the diagnostic protocol before reading data.
Supported battery types
The TopDiag BT400 is compatible with the most common lead-acid battery types used in vehicles.
- AGM: Both Absorbent Glass Mat flat plate and spiral-wound batteries.
- EFB: Enhanced Flooded Battery, commonly used in vehicles with start-stop systems.
- GEL: Batteries where the electrolyte is bound in gel form.
- Lead-acid: Conventional flooded batteries, also known as wet batteries.
