What is OBFCM?
OBFCM stands for OnBoard Fuel Consumption Monitoring. This system is an initiative of the European Commission and has been made mandatory for all light vehicles released since January 2021 in more than 27 European countries. The purpose of OBFCM is to accurately monitor and report the fuel consumption of vehicles. From January 1, 2020, new cars must be equipped with this system. It records the consumption, which must then be read and submitted to the Netherlands Vehicle Authority (RDW) during the General Periodic Inspection (APK) starting January 1, 2024. The RDW reports the collected data annually to the European Commission and the European Environment Agency.
